sometimes i find myself thinking about you. : 06 February 2011 - 12:22 AM

well, i found this on tumblr & i thought that i should share it with just a handful of the readers i have (:

one day, i saw this kid from my class walking home from school. her name was kylie. it looked like she was carrying all her books. I thought to myself "why would anyone bring all his books home on a friday? she must really be a nerd." i had quite a weekend planned so i shrugged my shoulders & left.

as i was walking, i saw a bunch of kids running towards her. they ran at her, knocking out all her books & tripping her so she landed in the dirt. her glasses went flying & i saw them land on the grass ten feet away from where she fell. she looked up & i saw the sadness in her eyes. my heart went out to her. so i jogged over to her. as she crawled around looking for her glasses.

when i handed her her glasses she thanked me with a face that shows real gratitude & a huge grin. i helped her pick up her books & asked her where he lived. as it turned out, she lived near me, so i asked her why i hadn't ever seen her before. she said she had gone to a private school before. we talked on the way home & i carried some of her books. we hung all weekend & the more i got to know kylie the more i like her. my other friends thought the same.

over the next four years kylie & i became best friends. when we were seniors we began to think about college. Kylie decided on georgetown & i was going to duke. i knew that we were always going to be friends, that the miles would never be a problem for us. she wanted to be a doctor & i was going to go for designing.

Kylie was valedictorian for our class, & i teased her all the time about being a nerd. she had to prepare a speech for graduation. i was so glad it wasn't me having to go up there & speak.

graduation day, i saw kylie. she looked great. she was one of those girls that really found herself during highschool. she filled out & actually looked good in her glasses. she had more dates than i had & all the guys loved her. i could tell that she was nervous about her speech so i patted her on her back & told her that she'd do great. she gave me one of those looks (the really grateful ones) & muttered "thankyou"

as she started her speech, she cleared her throught & began "graduation is a time to thank all those people who helped you make it through all those years. your parents, your teachers, your sibling & maybe a coach... but mostly your friends. i am here to tell you that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give them. i am going to tell you a story"

i just looked at kylie with disbelief as she told the story of the first day we met. she had planned to kill herself over the weekend. she talked about how she cleaned out her locker so her mum wouldn't have to do it later & was carrying his stuff home. "thankfully i was saved. my friend helped me from doing the unthinkable" i heard gasps go through the crowd as this gorgeous & popular girl told us about her weakest moment. i saw her parents looking at me & smiling that same grateful smile. not until that moment did i realise it's depth.

isn't that cute (: it's amazing what you can actually find over the internet. ohmyfuckinggod, ilovethissomuch.
never underestimate the power of your actions. with one small action you can change a person's life. for better or for worse.
